The Legend of the Wolf and Little Red

Our story begins right after Wolf captured Little Red and Granny.

He locked them in his house, and forced them to do his dirty laundry. When word got out that Granny and Little Red hac been captured, all of the forest friends came to their rescue.

First, came a couple of Pink Ladies, who tried to persuade Wolf to let Granny and Little Red go. "Oh Wolf, please let Granny and Little Red go, and we'll head on over to the malt shop." But Wolf just bared his sharp teeth, and the girls dashed away screaming.

Next came a hippie who said to Wolf, "Like, come ON man. Can't we just solve this with peace and love?" But Wolf howled with laughter, and the hippie took off running into the trees.

A few ninjas stealthily crept up to Wolf's house, and they tried to fight Wolf so that Little Red and Granny could escape. But they were no match for Wolf, who was also a black belt in karate. After a few "Hi-yahs!" and some well-placed kicks, the ninjas ran off, whimpering.

A little while later, a princess flew by on her magic carpet. She promised Wolf jewels and riches beyond his wildest dreams, if only he would let her two friends go. Wolf growled and said that his mom wouldn't let him open up a bank account, so her money was no good to him. The princess sailed off into the darkness.

A girly vampire came to Wolf's house. She smiled at Wolf, hoping to scare him with her sharp, orange teeth. But the vampire took one look at Wolf's razor-sharp fangs, and she hurried away from there.

A pretty pink cowgirl rode up on her horse. She said, "Howdy pardner. How's about you let Granny and Li'l Red free, and I'll rustle us up some Texas-sized salads?" "I EAT MEAT!", growled Wolf, and the cowgirl's horse neighed and galloped off.

Next, some frighteningly scary ghouls glided up to Wolf's house. They moaned and groaned until it made Wolf crazy. He sliced through the air with his sharp claws which terrified the ghouls, and they too, fled off into the dark of the forest.

Sometime later, two famous singers got out of their limo, and stepped into the spotlight in Wolf's front yard. They sang at the top of their lungs and hit their highest notes, but Wolf sprang off the porch gnashing his teeth, and the two singers raced off screaming back to the limo.

So then THIS guy showed up, trying to sell Wolf a subscription to "Hair Fancy" magazine. Wolf politely explained that his mommy just renewed his subscription for his birthday. Magazine guy left without a new subscription, but with some great new ideas for a French braid.

Anakin Skywalker zoomed up to Wolf's house in his pod racer. Weilding his light saber, Anakin tried to challenge Wolf to a duel, but Wolf smashed the light saber to smithereens,
and Anakin raced off.

A crew of witches flew in on their broomsticks. They screeched to a halt on Wolf's front porch, and started chanting a spell to free Little Red and Granny. Wolf heard the commotion, came out on the porch, and with one swoosh of his powerful, bushy tail, he had those witches bolting away on their broomsticks.

Things were looking pretty grim for Granny and Little Red by now, when three star athletes swaggered up to Wolf's house and challenged him to three contests. Little did the athletes know, that Wolf had been elected to three different Halls of Fame. Wolf tackled, swam, and kicked his way to victory, and the athletes scooted back into the shadows.

Just when it seemed like Little Red and Granny would be doing Wolf's stinky laundry for the rest of their lives, a feisty pirate landed ashore. Wolf took one look at the pirate's eye patch, and he knew he had met his match. But he wasn't going down without a fight, so he challenged the pirate to a game of Sudoku. Now, everyone knows that most pirates are Sudoku experts, because of having to spend long, boring days at sea. (Stealing the booty gets pretty old after awhile, you know.)

Anyway, the pirate finished her puzzle in record time, and Little Red and Granny were

FREE AT LAST!

When word got out that the pirate had saved Granny and Little Red, the forest friends were all so proud of themselves. After all, they knew that they each had a small part in wearing down Wolf, until he was too tired to fight any longer. The friends partied all night at a celebration in honor of Granny and Little Red. In the morning, they were all so exhausted that everyone collapsed in a heap and took a nice, long nap. And that is the legend of The Wolf and Little Red, and it is why to this day, wolves don't wear clothing. (They don't know how to use a washing machine.) Every word of this story is true. Just ask anyone in 3B.

Third Grade Field Trip to the Oakes Museum

Third grade had a fantastic time at the Oakes Museum at Messiah College on Tuesday, October 6th. We learned about animals of North America and Africa. We also took a nature hike and played a predator/prey game. We thank our chaperones Mrs. Everly, Mrs. Isenberg, and Mrs. Raia for coming with us. We had beautiful weather, and everyone was very well behaved.
It was a great day!
Mrs. Britt, Abby, Tony, Hailey, C.J., and Naomi being chased by all kinds of bears.

Sydney, Ana, Gabby, Cassie, Lauren, and Mrs. Everly visit the pond and the beaver lodge.

Ben, Hunter, Grace, Molly, Hannah, and Mrs. Isenberg with different kinds of sheep and mountain goats.

Jensen, Julia, Breanna, Franchetta, Catherine and Mrs. Raia with the Bison.

Dominik, Jarred, Aaron, Christopher, Nicholas, & Mrs. Cavada making friends with the caribou.

Where'dya get that gorgeous fur, girls??

Before we started our hike, Helena explained what we would be seeing, hearing, and looking for.

The rarely seen "Cassie Bird". Notice the unusual head feathers.

We spent some time looking for animal tracks, and found quite a few.

Helena was telling us about the kinds of trees we would find in the woods.

Looking at the work of some gypsy moths and listening for birds.

This rotting log will eventually turn into dirt.

Naomi, Tony, C.J., Abby, Hailey, and Mrs. Britt found these guys just "hanging around".

Mrs. Isenberg, Hunter, Grace, Ben, Molly, and Hannah with the giraffe. Did you know that giraffes have the same number of neck bones that humans have? Seven!

Catherine, Julia, Jensen, Franchetta, Breanna, and Mrs. Raia with the elephant at the African watering hole.

Sydney, Gabby, Cassie, Ana, Lauren, and Mrs. Everly with the antelope. The antelope on the back left has those markings to make it harder to spot when the sun shines through the tall grasses.

Jarred, Dominik, Nicholas, Christopher, Aaron and Mrs. Cavada with the lions. Did you know that not all male lions have manes? It depends on how close they live to the equator. The lions in this exhibit were all male, but they did not all have manes.

Our last activity of the day was to play a game of predator/prey. Some of us managed to escape, but not everyone did.

What a good looking class! And so well behaved . . .

. . . most of the time. By 2:00, it was definitely time to head back to SJS.
We had a terrific day!!!!
